Rhinofish Noodle Bar

Prior to opening Rhinofish Noodle Bar, Chef David Wu recruited Spotlight West to generate awareness for the launch of his first restaurant — located in the heart of Vancouver’s Chinatown. We were also tasked with generating media coverage, executing a media launch event for key influencers, consulting on social media, and developing a strong marketing campaign for the English and Chinese community, prior to and beyond the launch.

our focus

Our goal was to take the stress of marketing and media coverage away from the chef, who already had plenty on his plate with the launch of his first ever restaurant. From crafting a consistent message to connecting with prominent media members, online influencers, and business leaders, we targeted a diverse audience to spread his story, his restaurant, and his concept. With our networks in the community, we also helped the restaurant navigate through the politics and relationships in the neighbourhood.

our results

Building anticipation was key while maintaining media and social media coverage propelled attendance beyond Chef Wu’s expectations. The 45-seater has seen a stellar flow of customers since it’s launch, at times selling out its menu. Less than two months into the launch, we:

  • Executed an exclusive launch event for 25 key food influencers and personnel;

  • Arranged interviews with the Chef for food print and digital outlets;

  • Generated media coverage in more than 10 major publications;

  • Achieved added exposure on WeChat with close to 10,000 hits;

  • Hosted a private lunch for 10 executives and directors of the top businesses and organizations in the neighbourhood, proving an opportunity for them to engage with the chef and build stronger working relationships within the community.
